The vision for this project at The Quarters – Hospital Ramp was to create four contemporary townhouses with storage facilities (total area 1,500m²) in the heart of the city, while preserving the historic character of the site — including the original vaulted basements. Despite the complexity of the plot, we successfully designed and built four four-storey homes, each with sweeping ocean views from the upper levels and striking rooftop terraces.

The design aimed to seamlessly blend historic character with contemporary living. The façade facing Hospital Ramp Road retains the charm of the old town, while the rear embraces a modern expression, with tall windows and balconies that open the interiors to light and views. By placing garages at ground level, the townhouses were raised to ensure that the living spaces benefit from panoramic views and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

The houses are experienced vertically, moving from ground-level parking up to the main living floors. Generous glazing, balconies, and terraces bring light deep inside while establishing a hierarchy between communal and private areas. A pitched single-slope roof maximises space and daylight while also accommodating solar panels, generating renewable energy and reducing the project’s environmental footprint.
