“Local architects win third prize at Street Seats design challenge in Portland (USA) with bench design that places wheelchair user in the middle rather than on the side”

The Street Seats design challenge invited participants from around the world to re-imagine the public bench. Over 250 entries were submitted from 6 continents, 24 countries, and 22 U.S. states by design firms, students, and individuals for a chance to have their design fabricated and installed around the World Trade Center in Portland, Oregon.

Our Gamma team had six weeks from the announcement that we were finalists to manufacture the bench on the other side of the world.

Our entry was one of two featured by the event organizers Design Museum Portland in the run up to the grand opening. – https://designmuseumfoundation.org/portland/blog/2018/07/23/design-feature-b_tween-bench/

We are overjoyed to have made 3rd place, and more so to have the opportunity to integrate our design into various locations in the near future. It’s a small step towards embracing diversity in the design of our built environment, and we are excited to bring this approach to future projects!
